ISOC Bangalore has been awarded the prestigious Community Grant from the Internet Society.

” With this project, ISOC Bangalore Chapter attempts to bridge the digital divide by infusing Internet literacy on standard business procedures among different artisan groups in and around the city of Bangalore. Internet literacy also provides the benefit of cementing the concept and importance of product development and in predicting market patterns. By connecting to the Internet, artisans will have access to web tools for selling their products to a wider demographic. Additionally, they will learn more about accounting procedures for purchases, salaries and others loan and grant applications. The Chapter will setup a basic lab infrastructure for the artisans from Self Help Groups (SHG), prepare curriculum in 3 Languages (English and 2 local languages) and deliver this online content through a series of workshops.”

A brief outlay of the courses has been listed as introduction to basic computer and network setup, Internet browsing, Search Engines, E-Commerce, E-mail, Social networking and marketing, Educational resources over internet, video conferencing, Microsoft platforms including word, excel and other tools to empower the artisans.

This project is planned on a multilevel model, with the classes being conducted physically in labs that have been setup and a comprehensive content resource organized and uploaded for scalable utilization in the internet. Several Hands-on events will be augmented upon the core project outlay.
